Catalyst Conversion
Oridecon and Elunium Conversion: Players can convert standard refining materials into their enriched counterparts to improve their chances of successful refinement.
- Oridecon: Convert 10 Oridecon into 1 Enriched Oridecon.
- Elunium: Convert 10 Elunium into 1 Enriched Elunium.
These enriched catalysts are essential for increasing the success rates during the refinement process. You can find the Catalyst Conversion NPC in Payon (147, 178).
Safe Refinement Limits
Refinement carries inherent risks, but certain levels are deemed safe, meaning your equipment cannot break if refined within these limits:
- Armor: Safe up to +4
- Level 1 Weapon: Safe up to +7
- Level 2 Weapon: Safe up to +5
- Level 3 Weapon: Safe up to +4
- Level 4 Weapon: Safe up to +4

Refinement Costs
Refinement costs are determined by the type of equipment and the current refinement level:
- Armor: 7,500 zeny per level
- Level 1 Weapon: 1,000 zeny per level
- Level 2 Weapon: 2,000 zeny per level
- Level 3 Weapon: 7,500 zeny per level
- Level 4 Weapon: 7,500 zeny per level
The cost multiplies by the current refine level. For example, refining a +4 Muffler to +5 will cost 37,500 zeny.
Enriched Refining
Enriched Refining offers players a safer path to higher refinement levels:
- Starting Point: Enriched Refining begins at +4 for both armor and weapons (official behavior starts at +7).
- Cost: 30,000 zeny per level for both armor and weapons.
Using Enriched Oridecon or Elunium significantly increases the success rates, making it a preferred method for those aiming for high-level refinement.
The Twist: Mighty Hammer and Safety Stone
Refinement with Mighty Hammer introduces an element of risk:
- Success: The item successfully refines to the next level.
- Break (10%): The item breaks, resulting in loss.
- Level Down: The item’s refine level decreases by one.
To mitigate the risk of breaking your equipment, you can use a Safety Stone:
- Safety Stone Mechanism: When used with Mighty Hammer, the Safety Stone ensures that your equipment will not break. It can only either successfully refine or level down.
- Acquiring Safety Stones:
- Purchase: Safety Stones can be bought for 100,000 zeny each.
- Exchange: Alternatively, you can exchange 5 Rough Oridecon and 5 Rough Elunium for one Safety Stone.
Safety Stones provide a layer of protection, making the refinement process less daunting, especially when dealing with valuable gear.
